John Grimes
The Honorable John Grimes serves as a distinguished senior advisor to Crucial Point LLC.
Mr. Grimes was sworn in as the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Networks and Information Integration (ASD NII) / Department of Defense Chief Information Officer (CIO) on November 14, 2005 and served in this capacity until 30 April 2009. Upon leaving the government, Mr. Grimes has established a Consulting LLC.
Mr. Grimes has extensive technical and policy experience in telecommunications, information systems and the command and control fields. His public service includes five years on the White House National Security Council Staff as Director for National Security Telecommunications Policy, Director of Defense Command, Control and Communications Programs, and Senior Director White House Situation Support Staff from 1984 to 1990. Mr. Grimes served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Defense-wide Command, Control and Communications and was the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Counterintelligence and Security Countermeasures from 1990 to 1994. As a member of the DoD senior executive service (SES), he held senior technical and staff positions with the National Communications System, Defense Communications Agency (Predecessor to DISA), and the U.S. Army Communications Command following his military service in the U.S. Air Force.
Mr. Grimes joined Raytheon Company in 1994 where he served as Vice President of Intelligence and Information Systems, Washington Operations, prior to retiring in November 2005. Mr. Grimes has served on four Defense Science Board (DSB) Task Forces. He was the chairman of the Industry Executive Subcommittee of the President’s National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee (NSTAC).
Scott McNealy
Scott McNealy is currently serving as an executive advisor to the Crucial Point CTO and coach to Crucial Point portfolio clients. In this capacity Scott provides guidance and counsel to members of the Crucial Point team in such areas as market assessment, strategic planning, business development, and technology acceleration.
Scott McNealy co-founded Sun Microsystems and built an iconic company that generated more than $200 billion in revenue during its independent existence. He personally championed high quality/highly secure software and hardware development practices the entire community benefits from today, and was a driving force behind constructs like the “the network is the computer.” We consider it a deep honor to have Scott as an advisor for our company and our clients and enjoy sharing him with those we serve.
Richard “Dick” Schaeffer
Dick Schaeffer is an internationally recognized information assurance and computer security professional with a deep understanding of the misson needs of modern enterprises. He is the former Director of the Information Assurance Directorate at the US National Security Agency (IAD NSA). As IAD Director he led the US government in full spectrum defense against a wide range of threats. IAD has primary responsibility in the US Government for ensuring products, services, technologies and standards are available for the benefit of the entire government. IAD is a key contributor to the Information Assurance Strategy to protect the Department of Defense’s (DoD) Global Information Grid (GIG) and other National Security Systems of the U.S. government. It supports ongoing military operations by delivering solutions that enable the secure and dynamic sharing of information between and across security domains at multiple classification and sensitivity levels. Dick’s leadership of IAD during a period of dramatic change helped ensure DoD and IC operations achieved their objectives, even in the face of growing cyber threats.
